No tax increase is needed to expand and renovate the Jones Library as proposed. Funds will be borrowed but, in the same way that a homeowner pays the mortgage from monthly income, the Town will repay them over time with its general revenue, the grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC), the funds raised by the Jones’ Capital Campaign, a Community Preservation Act grant, and receipts from the sale of historic preservation tax credits. Your local taxes WILL NOT INCREASE to pay for this project. Any claim that recent tax bills are increased because of the Library project are flat wrong.
