The Trustees applied for Community Preservation Act funding in 2020 to aid with construction of a new Special Collections Facility within the proposed expanded library. You can read the grant proposal and watch the discussion of the proposal at the CPAC meeting of October 22, 2020, beginning at 1:32.
Elected officials and consultants took and answered questions at public fora on March 3, 2021 and March 6, 2021.
On February 22, 2021, the president of the Trustees of the Jones Library gave a 65-minute culminating presentation to Town Council.
On April 5, 2021 Town Council received a lengthy report from the Finance Committee and took two votes regarding the project: the first was to approve $1 million of CPA funds to support the Special Collections Facility, and the second was to “appropriate” the total project cost (as required by law) for the Jones Library expansion of $36.3 million, with $13.9 million to come from the MBLC grant, $1 million from CPA, $5.6 million from the Trustees of the Jones Library (fundraising), and $15.8 million from the Town of Amherst.
