Every Monday, we spotlight the town government meetings, and cultural, recreational, and athletics events that caught our eye. Read on and mark your calendars!

ARHS Varsity Athletics at Home – Monday, Tuesday

Catch Amherst Hurricanes varsity action at home this week! Girls Basketball (3-13) tips off at home on Monday at 7:00 pm vs. Hampshire Regional. Boys Basketball (8-9) faces Minnechaug on Tuesday at 7:00 pm. Both games at ARHS. $ MORE

Community Resources Committee – Tuesday

The Town Council Committee on Community Resources meets on Tuesday to continue discussion about the proposed rental registration bylaw. The committee is challenged to balance the Town Council goals with the interests of the Amherst Landlords Association, a group representing more than 500 people who rent property in Amherst. 6:30 pm on Zoom. Budget Hearing – Amherst School Committee – Tuesday

The Amherst School Committee holds its annual Budget Hearing on Tuesday in the Library at ARHS. The elementary schools are facing cuts to current programs and staff of around $500K next year. Learn more and provide your input at this public hearing. 6:30 pm in the Library at ARHS and on Amherst Media.  MORE

Presentation on EV Charging and Solar Canopies – Wednesday

The Energy and Climate Action Committee continues its Education Series with a presentation on Wednesday about electrical vehicle charging and solar canopies. Presented by Sunbug Solar, the session includes ample time for Q&A. 5:30-6:30 pm on Zoom. Free. MORE

Amherst School Committee – Thursday

The Amherst School Committee meets again on Thursday evening to continue its discussion of next year’s budget and to discuss the plans to move 6th grade to the Regional Middle School. 6:30 pm in the Town Room at Town Hall and on Amherst Media. MORE

Community Veterans Breakfast – Friday

The Town of Amherst CRESS Department (Community Responders for Equity, Safety, and Service) welcomes the entire community on the first and third Friday of each month for a Veterans Community Breakfast. These breakfasts aim to bring veterans and other community members together for food and friendship to help coalesce a spirit of camaraderie to enable authentic, veteran-oriented communities to flourish. At each breakfast, a veteran or veteran family member will share their story about military service. Friday, 8:00-9:00 AM, Bangs Community Center. Free  MORE

Oscar Nominated Short Films – open Friday

Head to Amherst Cinema beginning on Friday to see Oscar-nominated short films! A perennial favorite, these three collections showcase the films that are nominated for the 96th Academy Awards for Animated, Live Action, and Documentary Short Films. Animated and Live Action Shorts open Friday; Documentary Shorts opens 2/23. $ MORE.

Spring Festival Celebration – Saturday

Join the Human Rights Commission and the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion as we welcome in the Year of the Dragon. Learn about the origins and traditions of Spring Festival.  Enjoy a Dragon dance and other traditional Spring Festival dances and songs. There will be activities for all and lunch will be provided by our favorite local restaurants. 10:30 am-12:30 pm at Amherst Regional Middle School. Free. MORE

You don’t have to run for an elected office to contribute to the future of our community and government. There are multiple Town boards and committees looking for new members, including the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Jones Library Building Committee, and the new 2024 Charter Review Committee.
