Every Monday, we spotlight the town government meetings, and cultural, recreational, and athletics events that caught our eye. Read on and mark your calendars!

ARHS Varsity Sports at Home – Monday through Friday

It may be April Break but ARHS student athletes are busy! Girls Softball vs. Westfield Tech, Monday at 4:30 pm. Boys Tennis vs. E. Longmeadow, Tuesday at 4:00 pm. Boys Baseball vs. Mount Greylock, Tuesday at 4:30 pm, and vs. Chicopee Comp, Wednesday at 12:00 pm. Girls Lacrosse vs. Chicopee Comp, Friday at 4:15 pm. Boys Lacrosse vs. Pittsfield, Friday at 4:30 pm. Softball, Baseball, and Lacrosse at ARHS; Tennis at ARMS. MORE

Finance Committee – Tuesday

The Finance Committee meets on Tuesday to hear public comment and continue its review and discussion of the Regional Schools budget. Tuesday, 4:00-6:00 pm online. MORE

Be Kind Itโ€™s Good for Your Mind Speaker Series – Wednesday

On Wednesday, the Be Kind Itโ€™s Good for Your Mind campaign continues its speaker series with a talk by Nakita Haywood of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.  Haywood will speak about QPR – Question, Persuade, Refer, for Suicide Prevention. Wednesday, 5:30-7:00 pm online. MORE.

Bellwether Series with Filmmaker Michael Gitlin – Thursday

On Thursday, Amherst Cinema welcomes filmmaker Michael Gitlin for a screening of his film The Night Visitors, which world premiered at the 2023 New York Film Festival. Following the 7:00pm film screening, Gitlin takes the stage for a Q&A with the audience. The Night Visitors explores the mysterious world of moths, in large and small fragments, looking both inward and out, and through a critical lens that is by turns social and personal. Thursday, 7:00 pm at Amherst Cinema. $ MORE

The Motet at The Drake – Thursday

Also on Thursday, head to The Drake for an evening with The Motet. Formed over two decades ago, the funk six-piece The Motet have learned to work as an interlocking unit, with each member bolstering one another towards the best creative output. This symbiosis has led to a unique style and cohesive musical chemistry, as seen in the band’s immaculate live performances and seamless blend of funk, soul, jazz, and rock. Veterans Breakfast for All – Friday

On Friday morning, CRESS invites veterans and community members to its twice-monthly Veterans Breakfast for All. At each breakfast, with bagels, donuts, and coffee, a veteran or veteran ally, will tell their personal story regarding military service. Friday, 8:00-9:00 am at Bangs Community Center. Free. MORE

Spring ArtWalk with UMass Fine Arts – Friday

Head to UMass Friday afternoon for the spring Fine Arts Center Art Walk. Celebrate the incredible art on campus by visiting the Fine Arts Center’s three visual arts venues, Augusta Savage Gallery, Hampden Gallery, and the University Museum of Contemporary Art. This once-a-semester event features free cider donuts, hands-on art activities, live performances, visual art, and fun. Visit all three venues and be entered to win great prizes! Friday, 3:00-6:00 pm at Augusta Savage Gallery, Hampden Gallery, and University Museum of Contemporary Art. Free. MORE

Regional School Committee & 4 Towns Meeting – Saturday

The Regional School Committee meets with leaders from the four regional towns (Amherst, Leverett, Pelham, and Shutesbury) to discuss the FY25 budget. There is no public comment at this special meeting. Saturday, 9:30 am in the library at Amherst Regional Middle School. MORE

Sustainability Festival – Saturday

Amherstโ€™s Annual Sustainability Festival returns to the Common on Saturday. Head over for a day of family fun, education, and entertainment. There is literally something for everyone with vendors of renewable energy, energy efficiency product suppliers, advocacy groups as well as sustainable crafts and artisans. Saturday, 10:00 am-4:00 pm on the Common. Free. MORE

Music on Main: Concert at First Church – Sunday

First Church Amherst hosts its Music on Main Concerts on Sunday with the performance Unsilenced – Hearing Afghanistan Today with activist music of composer and pianist Arson Fahim. The concert includes conversation and chamber music with Fahim and the Cuatro Puntos Ensemble. Sunday, conversation with Arson Fahim at 1:15 pm; concert at 2:00 pm. At First Congregational Church. Donations at the door. MORE
