Memorial Day Parade – Monday at 9:00 am

Amherst’s annual Memorial Day parade kicks off around 9:00 am at the Spring Street Lot. The procession will head up South Pleasant Street going northwest onto North Pleasant Street and then east on Triangle Street. The parade will proceed to the War Memorial Pool Park area where the annual ceremony will take place.

Memorial Day Ceremony – Monday at 9:30 am

At the conclusion of the parade, the annual ceremony program will begin at the War Memorial park area on Triangle Street. The program includes remarks from Town leaders, a selection of songs sung by the ARHS Chorale, and the presentation of the Medal of Liberty.

The Medal of Liberty is awarded to Massachusetts service men and women who have been killed in action, died as a result of wounds received in action, or who died in service while in a designated combat area in the line of duty. This year the Medal is being awarded to Private Felix Stephen Stanne, U.S. Marine Corps, Killed in Action – March 15, 1945, and will be presented to his nephew, John Stanne. Private Stanne was born and raised in Amherst and graduated from Amherst Regional High School (1936) where played football, basketball, and track.
