Full Moon Hike to Mount Norwottuck – Monday

Hiking at night can change your perspective of what it means to spend time outdoors. Come experience a guided night hike with the Kestrel Land Trust on Monday for a moon-rise climb to the top of Mount Norwottuck on the Mount Holyoke Range. The  full moon in August is called the Sturgeon Moon. Monday, 6:30-10:00 pm at the Kestrel Land Trust Headquarters. $ MORE

Town Council – Monday

At its meeting on Monday evening, the Town Council will approve appointments to the Finance Committee and the Planning Board. They will also discuss the annual goals for the Town Manager. Monday, 6:30-10;30 pm in Town Hall and on Zoom. MORE

Public Art Commission – Tuesday

On Tuesday, the Townโ€™s Public Art Commission will discuss plans for Art Night after surveying the community this summer about reviving the event series. Tuesday, 6:00-7:30 pm on Zoom. MORE

Planning Board Hearings & Meeting – Wednesday

The Planning Board will host public hearings on Wednesday about requests related to live entertainment at Uptown Bar & Grill and a retaining wall associated with the Jones Library renovation & expansion project. Wednesday, 6:30-9:00 pm on Zoom.  MORE

Sound + Vision at Amherst Cinema – Wednesday

Head to Amherst Cinema on Wednesday for Sound + Vision, their annual celebration of music culture through film. Wednesdayโ€™s film, One Hand Donโ€™t Clap, captures the vibrant story of calypso and the emergence of soca through the eyes of two legendary artists, Lord Kitchener, the Grandmaster of the music and Calypso Rose, the first woman to break through in a traditionally male arena. Amherst Historical Commission Hearing & Meeting – Thursday

The Historical Commission meets on Thursday evening to host a public hearing and review of changes to the updated building plans based upon value engineering concerning demolition of rear 1990s additions to the 1928 structure. Thursday, 6:30-9:00 pm on Zoom. MORE

Strings @ Strong – Saturday

The Amherst Historical Societyโ€™s annual Strings at Strong music series continues on Saturday. Held in the garden at the Strong House in the heart of downtown Amherst, the concert series offers a wonderful way to spend the afternoon outside enjoying local musicians. This Saturday, The Amethyst Quartet performs. Saturday, 2:00-4:00 pm at the Strong House. Free. MORE

ARPS First Day Celebration – Sunday

The annual ARPS First Day Celebration to welcome the new school year is on Sunday. Plan to join to meet your student’s principal, visit with our local firefighters, paramedics, and police, learn about our great partners, have a free ice cream treat from the ice cream school bus, and play with friends on the awesome Kendrick Park playground! Sunday, 4:30-6:30 pm in Kendrick Park. Free. MORE

Amherst Community Theater Auditions – coming in September!

Amherst Community Theater announces auditions for Disneyโ€™s Newsies, directed by Megan Healey, musical direction by Cindy Naughton and choreography by Sue Dresser. Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy who leads the teenage โ€œnewsiesโ€ to strike against unfair conditions. Packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, Newsies is perfect for every audience. 9 performances in January 2025. Actors, singers, and dancers ages 7-107 encouraged to audition!
