It’s Monday and we’re back with our roundup of the week’s events. Here are this week’s town government meetings, and cultural, recreational, and athletics events that caught our eye.

Disability Access Advisory Committee – Tuesday
On Tuesday, the Disability Access Advisory Committee will meet to discuss making Town Hall accessible as well as repairs to sidewalks on Rte. 9, South East St., and Triangle St. Tuesday, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm on Zoom. MORE
Jones Library Budget & Investment Committee – Tuesday
At its meeting on Tuesday, the Budget & Investment Committee for the Jones Library will meet to review the first quarter of the FY25 budget as well as an update on Annual Fund and Capital Campaign fundraising. Tuesday, 3:00-4:30 pm in the Goodwin Room at the Jones Library. MORE
Amherst & Regional School Committees Joint Meeting – Tuesday
The Amherst, Regional, and Pelham School Committees will meet jointly on Tuesday to discuss making a joint statement.
After the Pelham SC and Amherst SC adjourn, the Regional SC and the Union 26 Committee will consider entering executive session to discuss negotiations of their contract with Superintendent Dr. E. Xiomara Herman.
Later, the Regional SC will hold its regular meeting. It will consider a resolution in support of a proposal from MASS Promise to invest, a group that’s advocating for the state legislature to fully meet its commitment to school funding equity by addressing the high cost burden of charter school and school choice public funding on low and moderate income school districts. The SC also will discuss a letter to the state Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education regarding the expansion request of the Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School. And, they’ll discuss the presentation from the Town of Amherst at the financial indicators meeting on November 4. Tuesday, 6:30-9:00 pm in the library at ARHS and on Amherst Media. MORE
Noirvember: Double Indemnity – Tuesday
The Amherst Cinema series Noirvember continues this week with a screening of Double Indemnity on Tuesday. Directed by Billy Wilder, who teamed with Raymond Chandler to adapt James M. Cain’s classic novel, this twisted tale of love and murder was nominated for seven Oscars®. Tuesday, 7:00 pm at Amherst Cinema. $ MORE
Community Preservation Act Committee – Thursday
The Community Preservation Act Committee (CPAC) meets on Thursday to hear presentations about four of the funding requests received by the Committee. The presentations are about a request for development funds for the Amherst Municipal Affordable Housing Trust, a modern architectural survey by the Amherst Historical Society, the preservation of stained glass windows at the Jewish Community of Amherst, and preservation of the historic farmhouse at Wildwood Cemetery. Zoning Board of Appeals Public Hearing & Meeting – Thursday
The ZBA will hold a public hearing and meeting on Thursday about a proposed solar array project on Shutesbury Rd, as well as about proposed mixed-income rental property projects by Way Finders Inc. on South East St. and on Belchertown Rd. Thursday, 6:00-9:30 pm on Zoom. MORE
Amherst Municipal Affordable Housing Trust – Thursday
On Thursday, the Amherst Municipal Affordable Housing Trust will meet and hear a presentation on accessory dwelling unit (ADU) capacity in Amherst, by Rob Williams of the UMass Architecture & Design department. They’ll also hear updates on their presentation to CPAC, the Way Finders project and hearing at ZBA, and the University Drive zoning overlay district that’s intended to encourage the development of more affordable housing. Point/Counterpoint with Ross Douthat – Thursday
Amherst College’s annual series Point/Counterpoint kicks off on Thursday with a conversation with Ross Douthat of the New York Times. The Point/Counterpoint lecture series examines our current crossroads, both nationally and globally, through public conversations with prominent figures from opposing ideological persuasions—politicians, newspaper columnists, novelists, poets, and others. This year’s theme is “Progress?” Is the world a better place today than it was fifty years ago? Will it be better yet in another fifty years? We cannot answer such questions without asking what we mean by “better,” that is, what counts as progress. Thursday, 7:00-8:30 pm in the Cole Assembly Room in Converse Hall at Amherst College. John Splithoff at The Drake – Saturday
Head to the Drake on Saturday night to hear singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist John Splithoff. Splithoff splices together throwback soul, modern production, and laid-back pop in his music. A native of Chicago, Splithoff began gaining momentum following the independent release of his breakout single, “Sing to You.” Driven by a hypnotic howl, breezy guitar, and an unbreakable bounce, the track generated over 100 million streams. His sophomore album is due out this fall from Virgin. Saturday, 8:00 pm at The Drake. $ MORE
