See a Movie! – Monday through Sunday

Head to Amherst Cinema to see a 4K restoration of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, (playing daily all week) described as “one of the most revered and unorthodox movie musicals of all time.” Or, catch the opening on Wednesday of Nosferatu, “a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.” See the full schedule on the Amherst Cinema website. Visit the Eric Carle Museum – Thursday through Sunday

Head to the Eric Carle Museum later this week and see the exhibit Free to Be…You and Me: 50 Years of Stories and Songs. The exhibit, open through April 2025, celebrates the profound and enduring impact of the groundbreaking 1972 record and its subsequent picture books and TV specials. Coming in January: ACT’s Production of Newsies!

Join Amherst Community Theater for an electrifying production of Disney’s Newsies, the Tony Award®-winning musical with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and book by Harvey Fierstein. Inspired by the 1899 newsboys’ strike, this rousing tale of resilience, justice, and community is more relevant than ever in today’s fight for workers’ rights and equality. Our spirited, inclusive production features a dynamic cast of all-gendered newsies, reimagining the story’s heart with dynamic choreography and show-stopping music. Nine performances at Bowker Auditorium, UMass running January 16–19 and January 24–26, 2025. Questions? Email producer@amherstacts.org. Tickets: amherstacts.org/buy-tickets.
