ARHS Varsity Athletics at Home – Monday-Friday
Catch ARHS varsity athletes in action at home this week! Boys Basketball vs. Taconic, Monday at 4:00 pm; Boys Hockey vs. Agawam, Thursday at 6:00 pm at Orr; Girls and Boys Swimming vs. Monson, Friday at 4:30 pm at the middle school pool; and Girls Basketball vs. Taconic, Friday at 7:00 pm. MORE
Board of License Commissioners – Monday
The Board of License Commissioners meets on Monday to review new and renewal applications for licenses for Common Victuallers, Liquor, Live Entertainment, and Auto Dealers. Monday, 5:30-6:30 pm on Zoom. MORE
Jones Library Tours – Thursday and Saturday
The Friends of the Jones Libraries are hosting tours of the Jones to learn about plans to renovate and expand the Jones Library. The tours will highlight information about different aspects of the project, including:
- Climate benefits
- Historic preservation
- Program space for children, teens, and adults
- Bathrooms on every floor
- Fully accessible
Volunteers will lead tours of the building, including areas not currently open to the public. Thursday at 10:00-11:00 am and Saturday at 10:30-11:30 am. MORE
Swimming and Pickleball! – Sunday
Amherst Recreation is host to weekly open swimming and adult “sandlot” pickleball at the middle school. Join the fun on Sunday! Adaptive open and lap swim at 11:00 am – 12:00 pm welcomes disabled, neurodivergent, and sensory sensitive swimmers. The pool welcomes all swimmers 12:00-1:00 pm for inclusive open and lap swim. Drop in 12:00-3:00 pm for pickleball in the gym, open to adults 16+. Sunday, various times. MORE about swimming. MORE about pickleball.
Coming in January: ACT’s Production of Newsies!
Join Amherst Community Theater for an electrifying production of Disney’s Newsies, the Tony Award®-winning musical with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and book by Harvey Fierstein. Inspired by the 1899 newsboys’ strike, this rousing tale of resilience, justice, and community is more relevant than ever in today’s fight for workers’ rights and equality. Our spirited, inclusive production features a dynamic cast of all-gendered newsies, reimagining the story’s heart with dynamic choreography and show-stopping music. Nine performances at Bowker Auditorium, UMass running January 16–19 and January 24–26, 2025. MORE
