It’s Monday and we’re back with our roundup of the week’s events. Here are this week’s town government meetings, and cultural and recreational events that caught our eye.
ARHS Varsity Athletics at Home – Monday and Saturday
Catch ARHS varsity athletes in action at home this week! Boys Golf vs. Hampshire Regional, Monday at 3:30 pm. Boys Soccer vs. Longmeadow, Monday at 4:30 pm. Girls Volleyball vs. Frontier, Monday at 6:00 pm. Girls Field Hockey vs. Belchertown, Saturday at 5:00 pm (Hills Field at Amherst College). MORE
Autumnal Equinox at the UMass Sunwheel – Monday
The public is invited to observe sunset associated with the day of the autumnal equinox among the standing stones of the UMass Amherst Sunwheel on Monday. UMass Amherst astronomers will discuss the celestial cause of the sun’s changing position during the hour-long gathering. They will also explain the seasonal positions of Earth, the sun and moon, and answer other questions about astronomy. Monday, 6:00 pm at the UMass Sunwheel (Amity St. just south of McGuirk stadium). Governance, Organization, & Legislation Committee – Tuesday
The GOL Committee of the Town Council meets on Tuesday to continue discussion on a zoning amendment regarding fees-in-lieu-of affordable housing units. The committee also will discuss a draft charge for the Transportation & Parking Commission, proposed changes to policy regarding regulation of public ways, and recommendations to fill vacancies on the Finance Committee and the Charter Review Committee. Amherst School Committee – Tuesday
The Amherst SC meets on Tuesday to consider entering executive session to discuss strategy related to litigation before the district. Tuesday, 5:30 pm in the Library at ARHS. MORE
Regional School Committee – Tuesday
The Regional SC meets on Tuesday beginning with a joint meeting with the Amherst and Pelham SCs. At the joint meeting, the three committees will review (and potentially vote on) the proposed FY26 goals for the superintendent. Later, the Regional SC will review and potentially vote on debt authorization to fund the repair project for the roof at the middle school. The SC also will discuss updates from the Fiscal Sustainability Subcommittee as well as the Budget & Audit Subcommittee. Tuesday, 6:30 pm in the Library at ARHS and on Amherst Media. MORE
Conservation Commission Public Hearing & Meeting – Wednesday
The Conservation Commission hosts public hearings on Wednesday related to proposed septic repair work at 317 Shutesbury Rd. and a proposed mixed-use residential development at Atkins corner in South Amherst. Wednesday, 7:00-10:00 pm on Zoom. MORE
Meet-n-Greet for Seniors with Town Council Candidates – Thursday
The Friends of Amherst Senior Center host a meet-n-greet for community elders on Thursday. Amherst seniors can enjoy free coffee, tea, and cider donuts and meet the candidates for Town Council. Thursday, 10:00 am at Atkins Farms Country Market. MORE
Community Resources Committee – Thursday
The CR Committee of the Town Council meets on Thursday to discuss the proposed solar bylaw and the Housing Production Plan that was prepared for the town in 2024-25 and adopted by the Planning Board in June 2025. Thursday, 3:00-5:00 pm on Zoom. MORE
School Committee Meeting – Thursday
The Amherst, Pelham, and Regional SCs meet again on Thursday to review and discuss the financial analyses and reports that the Massachusetts Association of Regional Schools (MARS) prepared for the districts at the request of the Regional SC. Members from MARS will present their report and respond to questions from the school committee members. Thursday, 5:00 pm in the library at ARHS and on Zoom. MORE
Cuppa’ Joe with Paul Bockelman & Superintendent Dr. Xiomara Herman – Friday
Head to the Bangs Community Center on Friday morning for coffee with town manager Paul Bockelman and schools superintendent Dr. Xiomara Herman. Dr. Xi began leading the Amherst-Pelham Regional School District in July 2024. There are many things happening in the school district that Dr. Xi will share and answer questions about, including the restructuring of Amherst grades K-6, new administrative leaders, and new policies/programs that help promote a transparent, safe, and student-centered environment. Mead Art Museum 75th Anniversary & Fall Opening Celebration – Friday
Join the Mead for a birthday bash to remember, and celebrate the new exhibitions! Enjoy plein-air drink and hors d’oeuvres on the museum plaza, make art with our student museum educators, and tour the galleries to experience the Fall installations: Swapnaa Tamhane: Spaces That Hold; A Contentious Legacy: Paintings from Soviet Ukraine; and Re/Presenting: An Activity Gallery. Marc Ribot Record Release Concert – Saturday
Head to the Drake on Saturday to hear guitarits Marc Ribot. Renowned as a wildly inventive guitarist who has collaborated with Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, John Zorn, Wilson Pickett, Marianne Faithfull, Caetano Veloso, Neko Case, and more, Ribot released his latest album Map of a Blue City in May 2025. The album showcases songs colliding disparate traditions: roots, bossa nova, no wave, noise, free jazz, and sounds that have no genre associations. Saturday 8:00 pm at The Drake. MORE
