It’s Monday Tuesday and we’re back with our roundup of the week’s events. Here are this week’s town government meetings, and cultural and recreational events that caught our eye.

Finance Committee – Tuesday

The Finance Committee meets on Tuesday to continue its discussion about financial guidelines for the upcoming FY27 budget development process. The Committee also will discuss the debt authorization for the Regional school district for work to repair the roof at the middle school. Tuesday, 2:00-4:00 PM on Zoom. MORE

ARHS Varsity Athletics at Home – Tuesday-Friday

Catch ARHS varsity athletes in action at home this week! Girls Volleyball vs. Minnechaug on Tuesday at 6:30 PM and vs. Belchertown on Wednesday at 6:30 PM. Girls Soccer vs. Palmer on Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Boys Soccer vs. Monument Mountain on Thursday at 7:00 PM. Boys Football vs. Wahconah on Friday at 7:00 PM. MORE

Finance Committee – Tuesday

The Finance Committee meets on Tuesday to discuss the Regional School district’s debt authorization for the middle school roof project, and to review and continue discussion of financial guidelines related to the fiscal sustainability of the Regional Schools. The Committee also will plan its schedule for developing financial guidelines for the FY27 municipal budget development. Tuesday, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm on Zoom. MORE

Governance, Organization & Legislation Committee – Tuesday

The Town Council’s Governance, Organization & Legislation Committee meets on Tuesday to review a resolution in support of a proposed “Community Heart & Soul” project and a proclamation in support of state funding for public higher education in Massachusetts. The Committee also will discuss proposed changes to the town’s public way policy, the proposed zoning bylaw amendment regarding accessory dwelling units, and a proposed charge for the transportation advisory commission. Paul Beaubrun – Tuesday

Head to the Drake on Tuesday to hear Port-au-Prince native and roots/blues musician Paul Beaubrun. Beaubrun’s music is grounded in Haitian tradition and draws musical influence from across the Caribbean, the United States, and throughout the African diaspora. His virtuosic guitar playing recalls both Ali Farka Touré and Jimi Hendrix. A masterful live performer with a magnetic stage presence, Beaubrun wins new fans every time he takes the stage and leaves every audience wanting more. Tuesday, 8:00 PM at The Drake. MORE

Candidate Forum – Wednesday

The League of Women Voters of Amherst is presenting two forums to learn about the candidates for elective offices in Amherst. On Wednesday, candidates for Town Council from districts 1, 2, 3, and 4 will participate. Join in person or watch from home via the livestream. The forums will also be be recorded and available on YouTube. Wednesday, 6:15-8:45 PM in the library at the high school. MORE

Becoming Beloved Community: Civics, Citizenship and Civility – Thursday

On Thursday, the Town’s Department of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion hosts a community dialogue on civics, citizenship, and civility. This community conversation invites all to engage in a dialogue about the rights and privileges of citizenship in a democratic society where civility is lacking. Led by the Town of Amherst’s Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Pamela Nolan Young. Light refreshments at 5:45 PM. Thursday, 6:00-8:00 PM, Bangs Community Center. MORE

Racial Justice Progress Report – Thursday

The League of Women Voters hosts a panel presentation of its recent report on the town’s implementation of recommendations from the Community Safety Working Group. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of the panel during the event. Thursday, 7:00-8:30 PM on Zoom. MORE

MASSive Desk Concert – Thursday

What do you call a tiny desk concert at UMass Downtown? A MASSive Desk Concert. Get to know some MASSively talented up-and-coming UMass musicians in this chill concert series.
This week, hear Laine_Truly and Marley Brown. Presented in partnership with the UMass Songwriting and Production Club, the series is free and open to all. Thursday, 7:00-8:00 PM at UMass Downtown. MORE

Cars & Coffee – Sunday

Cruise over to the Mill District on Sunday for a relaxed morning of checking out 50+ vehicles on display! This free community event invites car lovers of all ages to enjoy a morning filled with cool cars, coffee, and fun. Domestic or import welcome to register. Spectators can stop by the registration booth for a free drip coffee token for Futura Coffee Roasters and details on entering our raffle for a $50 gift card to The Mill District General Store & Local Art Gallery. A playground and coloring activities will also be available, making this the perfect family outing. Sunday, 8:30-11:30 AM at the Mill District in North Amherst. MORE

Rebel with a Clause – Sunday

Grammar fans unite and bring your questions too! Amherst Cinema presents two screenings on Sunday of docu-comedy Rebel with a Clause. Each screening includes a pre-film pop-up Grammar Table and is followed by a post-film discussion and book signing with the director Brandt Johnson and film subject, grammarian and author, Ellen Jovin. Sunday, 12:45 PM and 4:00 PM at Amherst Cinema. MORE

Burgoff/Ricker Trio Musical Coffee House – Sunday

South Church presents a musical coffee house Sunday with the Burgoff/Ricker Trio, featuring Mark Ricker, jazz guitar; Jimmy Burgoff, fretless bass ukulele; and Julian Burgoff, congas. Their specialty is the music of Brazil, known as the bossa nova; they also intersperse varied styles of jazz standards into their set list. Refreshments will be served! Coming Soon! Town Council Candidate Debates-presented by The Amherst Current

Save the dates! The Amherst Current is hosting two debates with candidates for Town Council. Friday, October 24 at 6:30-8:30 PM with At-Large and District 1 candidates; and Monday, October 27 at 7:30-9:30 PM with District 2, 3, and 4 candidates. Presented in collaboration with the UMass School of Public Policy Graduate Student Organization. More information to come.
