Town Council – Monday
At its meeting on Monday, the Town Council will review a resolution in support of a proposed “Community Heart & Soul” project and a proclamation in support of state funding for public higher education in Massachusetts. The Council also will consider several zoning bylaw amendments, including ones about accessory dwelling units and fees in-lieu-of affordable units in housing developments. Historical Commission Public Hearing & Meeting – Monday
The Historical Commission hosts a public meeting Monday about a demolition request for a house at 406 Northampton Rd. At its meeting, the Commission will review updates on CPA projects. Monday, 7:00-10:00 pm on Zoom. MORE
Amherst School Committee – Tuesday
The Amherst (elementary) School Committee meets on Tuesday to hear an update on the elementary school building project and discuss naming the new elementary school and 6th grade academy at the Regional Middle School. North Common Ribbon Cutting Ceremony – Wednesday
Join Town leaders on Wednesday for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony celebrating the North Common Revitalization Project! The Town of Amherst set out on a mission to transform the North Common into a more inviting and vibrant destination for residents and visitors alike. The vision was to create a lively gathering place that would draw people to Downtown Amherst for community events, civic activities, shopping, and dining at our local small businesses. This project has been a collaborative journey spanning several years, supported by various Town departments, boards, committees, and community members. After more than a decade of public engagement, thoughtful design, and careful construction, the North Common Revitalization Project is officially complete. League of Women Voters Candidate Forum – Thursday
The League of Women Voters of Amherst presents its second forum to learn about the candidates for elective offices in Amherst, featuring Town Council At-Large candidates and School Committee candidates. History Bites: Meet the Eclipse Chasers – Friday
The Amherst Historical Society’s lunchtime series “History Bites” continues on Friday with a talk from Bonnie Isman about the current exhibition at the Amherst History Center on the travels of Mabel Loomis Todd and her husband to photograph solar eclipses in the early 20th century. Follow Professor David Todd, Mabel Loomis Todd, and their daughter Millicent around the world as they attempt to observe and photograph solar eclipses. Amherst School Committee – Friday
The Amherst School Committee meets on Friday to review a presentation on proposed enrollment zone boundaries for the new elementary school and Crocker Farm school when the new building opens in Fall 2026. Friday, 5:00-6:00 pm on Google Meet. MORE
Town Council Candidate Debate – Friday
The Amherst Current hosts the first of two debates on Friday for voters to learn about Town Council candidates. The events will be roundtable discussions on the key election issues, facilitated by Stan Rosenberg, former state legislator and senate leader. Halloween Spooktacular – Sunday
Get ready for a day full of fun and frights for the whole family! Amherst Recreation will be hosting their annual Halloween Spooktacular on Sunday. The event includes an exciting lineup of festive activities, including downtown trick-or-treating, a costume parade through town, and a haunted house and kids carnival at the Bangs Community Center. Sunday, 12:00-3:30 pm at various downtown locations. MORE
