It’s Monday and we’re back with our roundup of the week’s events. Here are this week’s town government meetings, and cultural and recreational events that caught our eye.
Town Council – Monday
At its meeting on Monday, the Town Council will discuss and potentially vote on several items: a Human Rights Commission bylaw, the acceptance of Palley Village Place as public way, a bylaw about public urination and defecation, the commission charge (including control and use of the public way) for the proposed Transportation & Parking Commission, and proposed amendments to Council committee charges. The Council also will review the Town Manager appointment of George Karras to the Board of License Commissioners. Monday, 6:30-10:30 pm in Town Hall and on Zoom. MORE
Cultural Council – Monday
The Cultural Council meets on Monday to discuss grant proposals that have been reviewed and rated thus far. Monday, 5:30-6:30 pm on Zoom. MORE
Thanksgiving – Thursday
Enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday! Town and School offices are closed Thursday and Friday for the holiday.
Free Parking Saturdays – begins on Saturday
Take your time exploring shops and sampling local flavors across downtown Amherst this holiday season! Catch a show at The Drake or a movie at Amherst Cinema! The Town of Amherst is suspending parking enforcement in all metered spaces and public lots in downtown Amherst on Saturdays through the end of December. Letters to Santa Mailing – Saturday
The Amherst Historical Society is opening its historic post office window this year for Letters to Santa. The community is invited to stop by the Amherst History Center and drop their letters in the post box believed to have served as the post office within the Amherst House Hotel in the late 1800s. Letters will be hand delivered to the big man himself at the Lighting of the Merry Maple on Friday, December 5. Saturday, 11:00 am-3:00 pm, and during the week of December 1, 1:00-4:00 pm, at the Amherst History Center (45 Boltwood Walk). MORE
Charter Review Committee Seeks Feedback – Ongoing
The 2024 Charter Review Committee recently completed their Initial Report and continues to reach out to many local groups, organizations and individuals to encourage as many people as possible to engage with the review process. The Committee invites the community to review the Initial Report and to provide feedback on it using this feedback form. The Committee meets on December 4 to draft its final report, and anticipates submitting the final report to the Town Council on January 5, 2026. MORE
