It’s Monday and we’re back with our roundup of the week’s events. Here are this week’s town government meetings, and cultural and recreational events that caught our eye.

Commission for Persons with Disabilities – Tuesday

At its meeting on Tuesday, the Commission for Persons with Disabilities will discuss plans for a film screening of The Road Ahead for Disability Pride Month, a bill in Illinois that bans mask bans, and other items. Tuesday, 11:30 am-1:00 pm on Zoom. MORE

Governance, Organization, and Legislation Committee – Tuesday

The Town Council committee on Governance, Organization, and Legislation meets on Tuesday to discuss its recommendations to fill vacancies on the Finance Committee and the Charter Review Committee, review the Town Council Rules of Procedure, and the discuss the process for the annual evaluation of the Town Manager. Tuesday, 6:30-8:30 pm on Zoom. MORE

Public Listening Session: Charter Review Committee – Tuesday

The Amherst Charter Review Committee hosts the third of four public listening sessions on Tuesday to hear from the community about our town government. These sessions are a great opportunity to engage in the charter review process. Each session will be an open forum of lightly facilitated discussion for any and all Amherst residents to share thoughts and opinions about town government and how it is working. Tuesday, 7:00-8:00 pm on Zoom. MORE

Community Safety & Social Justice Committee – Wednesday

The CSSJ Committee meets on Wednesday and will discuss updates on the work to establish a Resident Oversight Board, updates on the Community Responders for Equity, Safety, and Service (CRESS) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion departments, and updates about potentially establishing a Youth Empowerment Center. Conservation Commission – Wednesday

At its meeting on Wednesday, the Conservation Commission will host public hearings on several notices of intent related to construction and maintenance projects around town. Wednesday, 7:00-10:00 pm on Zoom. MORE

Sound & Vision Film Series – Wednesday

Amherst Cinema’s annual summer series celebrating music culture through film returns for another rousing season. Featuring documentaries and concert films new and old, Sound & Vision shines a light on beloved stars and forgotten heroes alike, uniting audiences in a joyful noise. On Wednesday, see Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus, with a post-film Q&A with director Eva Aridjis Fuentes. For almost everyone, the entry point for discovering the music of Q Lazzarus came via “Goodbye Horses,” iconically featured in Jonathan Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs. But who was Q Lazzarus, a.k.a. Diane Luckey, and where did she go for 25 years? Wednesday, 7:00 pm at Amherst Cinema. MORE

Valley Green Energy Working Group – Thursday

The Valley Green Energy Working Group meets on Thursday to discuss updates on the Valley Green Energy program, an agreement between Amherst, Pelham, and Northampton to come together to supply electricity to residents. Thursday, 5:30-7:30 pm on Zoom. MORE

Sunset Thursdays at the Carle – Thursday

On Thursday, the Eric Carle Museum continues its Sunset Thursdays with evening exhibition hours and live music. Enjoy breezy, late Thursday evenings while you picnic on the beautiful grounds and take in the jazz music in the courtyard. Enjoy drinks, order picnics to-go from area restaurants, or bring your own food. Feel free to bring your own blankets or lawn chairs. Summer Music Concert Series – Friday

The Amherst Business Improvement District’s Summer Music Concert Series is back! Happening on Fridays through August 1 , these community concerts bring great music, great vibes, and great company to the heart of Downtown Amherst. This week: Special Triple Feature with LeFever, Lonesome Brothers, and BR413. Bring your lawn chairs, picnic blankets, friends, and family, and enjoy a variety of live music performances under the summer sky. This free event is open to all and celebrates the spirit of our downtown community. A cash bar will be open on-site serving beer, wine, and cider. Friday, 5:00-8:00 pm on the Common. MORE
