It’s Monday and we’re back with our roundup of the week’s events. Here are this week’s town government meetings, and cultural and recreational events that caught our eye.

ARHS Varsity Athletics at Home – Thursday-Saturday

Catch ARHS varsity athletes in action at home this week! Girls Tennis vs. Westfield on Monday at 4:15 PM; vs. E. Longmeadow on Tuesday at 4:30 PM; and vs. Ludlow on Thursday at 5:00 PM. Boys Baseball vs. Granby on Monday at 4:45 PM; vs. Holyoke on Friday at 5:15 PM; and vs. Monson on Saturday at 4:00 PM. Girls Lacrosse vs. Mount Greylock on Monday at 5:30 PM and vs. Northampton on Friday at 4:15 PM. Girls Ultimate Frisbee on Thursday at 6:30 PM.  MORE

Amherst Housing Authority Board of Commissioners — Monday

The board will receive the Executive Director’s financial, warrant, and treasurer’s reports, review property management updates including unit vacancies, tenant accounts receivable, PIC and Voucher Management System reports, and facilities and capital work orders, and hold a commissioner’s discussion. Monday, 4:00–5:00 PM, in person at the Jean Elder Community Room, 9 Chestnut Street. MORE

Town Council — Monday 

The council will receive a presentation on water and sewer revenues and expenditures in response to a Charter §2.8(c) request, and take action on the FY2027 budget, proposed FY2027 water and sewer rates and regulation amendments, a proposed Amherst Pelham Regional School Agreement amendment, a Community Safety and Social Justice Committee Charter §2.8(b) request, proposed acceptance of a school bus violation detection monitoring system, and an amendment to its April 27 vote on the Town Manager’s executive order on immigration activities, and will pass proclamations for ALS Awareness Month, Jewish American Heritage Month, and Migraine and Headache Awareness Month. Finance Committee of the Town Council — Tuesday 

The committee will review the FY2027 budget overview and Capital Improvement Program. Tuesday, 1:00–3:00 PM, via Zoom. MORE

Public Shade Tree Committee — Tuesday 

The committee will conduct a site visit to review a request to remove a 24-inch oak tree at the intersection of Clark Hill Road and East Pleasant Street in order to improve the sight line looking north from Clark Hill Road. Tuesday, 5:30–6:00 PM, in person at the intersection of Clark Hill Road and East Pleasant Street. MORE

Board of Health — Wednesday 

The board will discuss SAPHE 2.0 with guests from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Massachusetts Association of Health Boards. SAPHE 2.0 (Statewide Accelerated Public Health for Every Community Act) is a Massachusetts law signed in November 2024 that modernizes and strengthens local public health by setting mandatory minimum standards, promoting regional collaboration, and implementing a uniform data system (Metrik) to ensure equitable health protections across all municipalities. 

Later, the board will consider a variance request at 52 Elf Hill Road, and hear a director’s update on tick-borne illness, Narcan cabinets, Purple Air sensors, and recent emergency preparedness trainings. Wednesday, 5:00–7:00 PM, via Zoom. MORE

Planning Board — Wednesday 

The board will review and discuss the Downtown Design Standards and Clean Energy Bylaw, hear a report from the Housing and Zoning Subcommittee, conduct a final review of the Open Space and Recreation Plan, discuss a draft memo to Town Council on the East Amherst Local Historic District, and review upcoming ZBA and special permit applications. Wednesday, 6:30–9:00 PM, via Zoom. MORE

Joint Meeting of the Town Council and Finance Committee — Thursday 

The council and committee will jointly review the FY2027 budget for the Elementary Schools, Regional Schools, and Conservation and Development, and discuss the proposed Amherst Pelham Regional School Agreement amendment. Thursday, 3:00–5:00 PM, via Zoom. MORE

Women’s Voices — Saturday

“Singing Creation, Speaking Truth: Women’s Voices, Earth’s Gospel” will be a celebration of words and music written by women, past and present, featuring quotes and poems from many traditions. Saturday, 4:00-5:00 PM at Grace Episcopal Church. MORE

Sandlot Baseball — Sunday

Get your bat, gum, and cleats ready to play some sandlot baseball! Every Sunday, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, at the Amherst Middle School field you are invited to play with enthusiasts of the sport. Remember, this is for fun, open to all skills levels! Sunday, 4:00-6:00 PM at the Middle School. MORE
