It’s Monday and we’re back with our roundup of the week’s events. Here are this week’s town government meetings, and cultural, recreational, and athletics events that caught our eye.

ARHS Varsity Athletics at Home – Monday-Friday

Springfield, Monday at 4:45 pm, vs. Agawam, Tuesday at 4:30 pm, and vs. Wahconah, Saturday at 3:30 pm. Boys Tennis vs. Longmeadow, Tuesday at 4:15 pm. Amherst Recreation Commission – Monday

The Amherst Recreation Commission meets on Monday to discuss plans for Independence Day, War Memorial Pool and aquatics programming, the ARHS track and field project, and updates from the Cherry Hill public golf course Working Group. Monday, 6:00-8:00 pm on Zoom. MORE

Town Council – Monday

At its meeting on Monday, the Town Council will review a presentation of the proposed FY26 budget, capital inventory, and capital improvement program. Read the presentation and find complete budget information on the Town website. Monday, 6:30-10:30 pm in Town Hall and on Zoom. MORE

Emily Dickinson Museum Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony – Tuesday

The Emily Dickinson Museum will celebrate the completion of the reconstruction of the Carriage House and the reopening of The Evergreens with a ribbon cutting ceremony, hosted in partnership with the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce and the Amherst Business Improvement District (BID). 

The Emily Dickinson Museum has completed the reconstruction of the carriage house that once stood to the east of The Evergreens, the home of Emily Dickinson’s brother Austin and his wife Susan. Along with reconstructing the historical appearance of the carriage house, the Museum prioritized sustainability with the goal of achieving passive house certification from the Passive House Institute US, Inc. It is the first passive commercial building in Amherst, as well as the first passive museum building and passive historic house reconstruction in the country. Finance Committee – Tuesday and Thursday

The Finance Committee begins its detailed review of the proposed FY26 budget and capital program at two meetings this week. On Tuesday, the Committee reviews the capital improvement program and the proposed budget for the library. On Thursday, the Committee reviews the Regional schools and the Elementary schools budgets. Community Storytelling @ Ancestral Bridges – Wednesday

You’re invited to a special gathering at the brand-new Ancestral Bridges community space! This collaborative event brings together elders from Ancestral Bridges and students from Amherst College’s “American Literature in Conversation” course, who will share powerful stories and multimedia projects created this spring. Through intergenerational conversations, they highlight the rich history and lived experiences of the Black and Afro-Indigenous communities of Amherst—and beyond. Enjoy food, music, and meaningful conversations throughout the new Ancestral Bridges space. Wednesday, 4:30-6:00 pm at Ancestral Bridges (29A Cottage St.). MORE

Planning Board Public Hearing & Meeting – Wednesday

The Planning Board meets on Wednesday to continue its public hearing about a proposed mixed-use and affordable housing development at Atkins Corner in South Amherst. At its meeting, the Board will continue discussions about the Housing Production Plan, the Accessory Dwelling Unit bylaw, and a possible zoning overlay for existing apartment complexes. Drawing Biographical Comics with Jonathan Todd – Thursday

The Jones Library and Mead Art Museum welcome award-winning graphic novelist Jonathan Todd on Thursday for a comics-making workshop inspired by his 2024 graphic novel, Timid! Attendees will create their own biographical comics during this hands-on session. Attendees will also have time to explore the Re/Presenting exhibit at the Mead Museum from 3:30-4:00pm. Get ready to experience the vibrant arts scene of Amherst like never before! The Amherst Artisans Market invites you to join them every Thursday on the lawn in front of the Amherst History Museum.

Cuppa’ Joe with Paul – Friday

Interested in learning more about the Town of Amherst’s upcoming budget? Head to the next Cuppa’ Joe with Paul on Friday! This event features Amherst Town Manager Paul Bockelman, Treasurer/Collector Jennifer LaFountain, and Clerk of the Council Athena O’Keefe. This is an opportunity for residents to learn about and discuss the Fiscal Year 2026 Budget. The budget includes all aspects of Town operations including Municipal, Schools, Library, and Capital for July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. Friday, 8:00-9:30 am at the Bangs Community Center. MORE

Breakfast & Birding at Plum Brook Pond – Saturday

Celebrate the arrival of spring with birdsong, good company, and nourishing food with the Kestrel Land Trust! As the bird migration season gets underway in the northeast, join them at Kestrel’s headquarters around Plum Brook Pond for this popular special annual event.

Guided by expert birders, explore the forest edges and pond area at the base of the Mount Holyoke Range at Sweet Alice Conservation Area while looking for warblers and other feathered visitors. 13th Annual Amherst Sustainability Fest – Saturday

Head to the Town Common on Saturday for a day of family fun, education, and entertainment. Coinciding with the regularly scheduled Amherst Farmers Market, this free and family friendly event brings together local farmers, environmental vendors, advocacy groups, live entertainment, hands-on demonstrations, sustainable crafts, and much more. Saturday, 10:00 am-4:00 pm on the Common. MORE

A Celebration of Hildegard of Bingen – Saturday

Grace Church will host a celebration of the 12th-century abbess, mystic, composer, and visionary Hildegard of Bingen on Saturday. This immersive event will explore Hildegard’s enduring wisdom through dramatic readings, musical excerpts from her play Ordo Virtutum, and visual projections of her vividly illuminated visions. The program is centered on four themes that resonate across the centuries: greening (viriditas), usefulness, speaking truth to power, and mysticism. All are welcome to this contemplative and inspiring celebration. Saturday, 4:00 pm at Grace Church. MORE
