Commission for Persons with Disabilities — Tuesday 

The commission will discuss a Wayfinders variance request, accessibility work on Wildwood, and a review of the Amherst ADA Transition Plan, plus updates on the FY28 MOD grant for the Munson bathroom, Munson Library ADA work, Mill River bathroom accessibility, the sensory light behind Town Hall, and Disability Pride Month celebrations. Governance, Organization, and Legislation Committee of the Town Council — Tuesday

 The committee will review the proposed Zoning Bylaw Article 18 on clean energy infrastructure, including solar and battery storage installations, dimensional regulations, and fences, and continue discussion of a Resident Oversight Board. Tuesday, 6:30 PM, virtual meeting (Zoom). MORE

Department of Public Works Building Committee — Wednesday

Valley Green Energy Working Group — Wednesday

Energy & Climate Action Committee — Wednesday 

The committee will hear a greenhouse gas emissions inventory update from UNH Sustainability Institute Fellow James Ordway, hold a retreat discussion, and review education and outreach efforts including the Landlord Heat Pump Initiative, alongside advisory updates on the UMass Climate Plan and transportation and state policy matters. Community Safety and Social Justice Committee — Wednesday 

The committee will review CRESS and DEI updates, discuss the Resident Oversight Board and a related Governance Committee open letter, funding and location for the Youth Empowerment Center, and updates on ICE activity and the sanctuary city bylaw, alongside membership and co-chair nominations. Conservation Commission — Wednesday 

The commission will hold a hearing on an amended Notice of Intent for a transformer containment system change at the 191 West Pomeroy Lane solar facility, discuss a final draft of the Conservation Land Management Policy including hunting rules, and review compliance updates on several culvert, track and field, and substation projects. Jones Library, Inc. Board of Trustees — Thursday 

The trustees will consider a Banned Books Week proclamation and hear committee reports covering the building project, a shopping cart policy, the annual fund and capital campaign, the library director’s annual evaluation, JEDI initiatives, and the FY25 audit and FY26/FY27 budgets. Zoning Board of Appeals — Thursday 

The board will continue hearings on the 27 Newell Court ADU appeal and the 112-114 N. Whitney Street duplex conversion permit, and take up two new requests: extinguishing a special permit at 40 University Drive so restaurant use falls under Site Plan Review instead, and modifying a special permit condition at 408 Northampton Street to allow a resident manager in place of a security guard. Sunset Thursdays at The Carle – Thursday

As the sun begins to set, the grounds at the Eric Carle Museum come alive with live outdoor jazz performed by local musicians curated by Northampton Jazz Festival along with artists of all ages drawing together, hands-on art activities, storytimes for all ages, local food vendors, and more. This week, enjoy live music from Rob Fontana (piano) and Vernon David (cello). Relax on the lawn, explore the galleries, and enjoy the creative energy of the season! Cuppa’ Joe with Paul and New Senior Services Director Dan Garcia – Friday

Join community members for coffee and conversation with Amherst Town Manager Paul Bockelman and the new Director of Senior Services Dan Garcia on Friday. Dan began as the new Director of Senior Services in July. He brings more than two decades of experience in education, community engagement, and human services leadership to the role. Purple Heart Community Designation Ceremony – Friday

The Town of Amherst is proud to announce that we have officially become a designated Purple Heart Community, joining more than 100 municipalities in Massachusetts and hundreds more nationwide in recognizing those wounded or killed in combat for their country. The Town of Amherst will be honoring this designation with an official Purple Heart Community Designation Ceremony on Friday in front of Town Hall.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend this special ceremony. The event will include remarks from town officials and community leaders, a proclamation reading, unveiling of the new signs, and recognition of Purple Heart Recipients. Please RSVP by August 7.
