It’s Monday and we’re back with our roundup of the week’s events. Here are this week’s town government meetings, and cultural and recreational events that caught our eye.

Design Review Board – Monday

At its meeting on Monday, the Design Review Board will discuss a proposal to replace the rear of the building at 69 S. Pleasant St. that was impacted by fire. Plans to remove the existing stairwell as well the wood back porches and rebuild a new staircase providing egress and roof access. The Board also will discuss a proposal to install new signage for the restaurant Asian Taste at 11 N. Pleasant St. Monday, 5:00-7:30 pm on Zoom. MORE

Town Council – Monday

The Town Council meets on Monday and will review and potentially confirm several Town Manager appointments as well as Town Council appointments to the Finance Committee and the Public Works Building Committee. Monday, 6:30-10:30 pm in Town Hall and on Zoom and Amherst Media. MORE

Regional School Committee – Tuesday

The RSC meets on Tuesday to review updated District human resources guidelines and to consider policies for revision. Tuesday, 6:30 pm in the Library at ARHS and on Amherst Media. MORE

Conservation Commission Public Hearings & Meeting – Wednesday

The Conservation Commission meets on Wednesday and will host public hearings on several items including a proposed new single-family home on Wildflower Dr. and the proposed multi-unit mixed-use buildings at Atkins Corner. Wednesday, 7:00-10:00 pm on Zoom. MORE

Public Listening Session: Charter Review Committee – Wednesday

The Amherst Charter Review Committee hosts the last of four public listening sessions on Wednesday to hear from the community about our town government. These sessions are a great opportunity to engage in the charter review process. Each session is an open forum of lightly facilitated discussion for any and all Amherst residents to share thoughts and opinions about town government and how it is working. Wednesday, 7:00-8:00 pm at the Bangs Community Center. MORE

Community Resources Committee – Thursday

The Town Council committee on Community Resources meets on Thursday to discuss the development of a solar bylaw as well as the timeline to develop two new bylaws related to accessory dwelling units and fee-in-lieu of affordable units. Thursday, 3:00-5:00 pm on Zoom. MORE

Zoning Board of Appeals Public Hearing & Meeting – Thursday

The ZBA hosts a public hearing on Thursday on proposed modifications to previous special permits related to a transformer station or other energy facility on Pulpit Hill Rd. Thursday, 6:00-9:00 pm on Zoom. MORE

Sunset Thursdays at the Carle – Thursday

On Thursday, the Eric Carle Museum continues its Sunset Thursdays with evening exhibition hours and live music. Enjoy breezy, late Thursday evenings while you picnic on the beautiful grounds and take in the jazz music in the courtyard. Enjoy drinks, order picnics to-go from area restaurants, or bring your own food. Feel free to bring your own blankets or lawn chairs. This Thursday, enjoy the music of .mp3, including Dylan Walter on piano, Aeneas Strozier on bass, and McCoy Plaisted on drums. See the full schedule. Mal Blum at The Drake – Thursday

Head to The Drake on Thursday for indie-rocker Mal Blum. Mal Blum returns with a new LP, The Villain, out via Get Better Records –a striking resurgence that combines the artist’s trademark blend of searing and wry lyricism with novel boldness and slight camp amongst a backdrop of textured indie rock, alt-rock and pop instrumentation. Alt-country Charlie Mtn. opens. Thursday, 8:00 pm at The Drake. MORE

Art House Theater Day at Amherst Cinema – Thursday

In partnership with Art House Convergence, a nationwide coalition of independent exhibitors, Amherst Cinema presents a full day of specialty repertory programming, in new restorations and with exclusive bonus material. At 7:00 pm, see Tangerine, the breakout feature from Oscar-winning director Sean Baker (Anora). Tangerine follows Sin-Dee (Kitana Kiki Rodriguez), back on the block and tearing through Tinseltown on Christmas Eve, searching for the pimp who broke her heart. Celebrate the 10th anniversary of Tangerine with an exclusive prerecorded Q&A with Sean Baker and producer Samantha Quan. Thursday, 7:00 pm at Amherst Cinema. See the full schedule online.

Summer Art Opening Reception – Friday

The Mill District Local Art Gallery hosts a free reception on Friday to celebrate the over 30 local artists who are exhibiting in the gallery this Summer Quarter. Don’t miss this wonderful evening of conversation, art, and complementary light refreshments. Live piano jazz provided by Avi Steinhardt. Friday, 5:00-7:00 pm at the Local Art Gallery in the Mill District. MORE

Summer Music Concert Series – Friday

The Amherst Business Improvement District’s Summer Music Concert Series continues on Friday! This week: UMass Jazz in July Program All Stars Concert. Bring your lawn chairs, picnic blankets, friends, and family, and enjoy a variety of live music performances under the summer sky. This free event is open to all and celebrates the spirit of our downtown community. A cash bar will be open on-site serving beer, wine, and cider. Friday, 5:00-8:00 pm on the Common. MORE

Nomination Papers Available – Now through September 16

Nomination papers for all town elected positions are now available at the Town Clerk’s office for the upcoming Amherst Town Election.
