It’s Monday and we’re back with our roundup of the week’s events. Here are this week’s town government meetings, and cultural and recreational events that caught our eye.

Residents’ Advisory Committee — Monday 

Members will review Committee activities and recruitment progress, discuss revising the Community Activity Form and interview script, and consider a satisfaction survey for members who termed off boards and committees on June 30. Monday, 10:00 AM–11:00 AM, Town Room of Town Hall. MORE

Design Review Board — Monday

The board will review signage for a new business at 220 North Pleasant Street, a propane tank and screening installation plan at 231 Triangle Street, and hold a discussion on Downtown Design Standards. Monday, 4:30 PM–6:30 PM, virtual meeting (Zoom). MORE

Regional School Committee and Union 26 Committee — Monday 

The committees plan to enter executive session to discuss negotiation strategy involving nonunion personnel matters related to the Superintendent. Monday, 6:00 PM–8:00 PM, virtual meeting (Google Meet). MORE

Public Forum & Special Town Council and Finance Committee Meeting — Monday 

The public forum, with at least half the time devoted to public comment, centers on a proposed FY2027 Community Preservation Act budget appropriation for the Goodwin Memorial Church preservation project. Monday, 6:30 PM–7:00 PM, Town Hall Town Room (4 Boltwood Ave) / Zoom. MORE

Town Council — Monday 

The council will hear updates on Town Manager goals and the DPW staff relocation plan, act on the Goodwin Memorial Church preservation appropriation and several financial order referrals, and consider a slate of board and committee appointments including the Affordable Housing Trust, Board of Assessors, and Community Preservation Act Committee. Finance Committee of the Town Council — Tuesday 

The committee will welcome a new member and review three financial orders — Pelham Treasurer-Collector services, Wildwood Elementary School care and custody, and PFAS monitoring and remediation appropriation — along with financial policies and a report from the ad hoc Budget Book Review Subcommittee. Hampshire College Zoning Study Information Session – Tuesday

The Town of Amherst invites the community to attend a virtual information session about the Hampshire Campus Zoning Study on Tuesday. All are welcome! 

This information session is an opportunity for community members to learn more and ask questions about the study and hear the latest updates from Town staff and consultants. The session will include a presentation and a Q & A segment facilitated by Town officials and the consulting team. This is the first of a series of community engagement opportunities that will extend into Fall 2026. 

The Hampshire Campus Zoning Study seeks to gather information about the property that will guide new zoning. The information gathered will provide an understanding of the areas that are developable, the capacity of infrastructure (i.e. water, sewer, roadways), housing market demands, opportunities for economic development, and other options. Historical Commission Public Hearing — Tuesday 

Public hearings are scheduled on a request to demolish a second-story porch at 33 Phillips Street and a request to relocate and demolish a garage at 24 Dickinson Street, plus commission reorganization and new-member introductions. Tuesday, 7:00 PM–9:00 PM, virtual meeting (Zoom). MORE

Department of Public Works Building Committee — Wednesday 

The committee will discuss the ongoing RFQ process for a designer contract and scope of work, alongside routine minutes approval and public comment. Wednesday, 2:00 PM–3:30 PM, Town Room, Town Hall. MORE

L’Eclair w/ Carinae at The Drake — Wednesday

Swiss psych-groove outfit L’Eclair brings global space-funk grooves in support of their new album Cloud Drifter, with Hadley genre-blending rockers Carinae opening. Wednesday, 8:00 PM (doors 7 PM), at The Drake. MORE

Zoning Board of Appeals — Thursday 

The board will hear a continued appeal over ADU gross floor area calculations at 27 Newell Court and a special permit request to convert a four-unit building to a non-owner-occupied duplex at 112-114 N. Whitney Street. Thursday, 6:00 PM–9:00 PM, virtual meeting (Zoom). MORE

Sunset Thursdays at The Carle – Thursday

As the sun begins to set, the grounds at the Eric Carle Museum come alive with live outdoor jazz performed by local musicians curated by Northampton Jazz Festival along with artists of all ages drawing together, hands-on art activities, storytimes for all ages, local food vendors, and more. This week, enjoy live music from the Favala Jazz Quartet and dinner from Cousins Maine Lobster truck.

Sherman’s March at Amherst Cinema – Thursday

Armed with a grant to make a documentary about General William Tecumseh Sherman’s 1864 march to the sea, Ross McElwee gets sidetracked, shifting his attention to the battlefield of modern love. This 1985 landmark of first-person filmmaking is newly re-released in a 4K restoration. Director Ross McElwee joins us for a post-screening conversation. Free to Amherst Cinema Members. Summer Concerts on the Common – Friday

Summer Concerts on the Amherst Town Common are back! Join us every Friday in July, starting July 10 for free live music from 5:00–8:00 PM. Spread out a blanket, pull up a chair, and grab a bite from one of our local restaurants. This week: Jazz in July All Star Concert featuring performances from the faculty and students of the UMass Jazz in July program. Friday, 5:00-8:00 PM on the town common. MORE

Cable Television Advisory Committee — Friday

The committee will continue the cable franchise ascertainment process with updates on the community survey, Amherst Media’s business plan, and the town’s IT equipment and capital needs, plus a review of Comcast’s Form 100 filing (the official license application/renewal paperwork as part of the town’s cable franchise process). Friday, 11:30 AM–1:00 PM, in-person at Town Room, Amherst Town Hall, with a Zoom option. MORE

Town Seeks Your Input About Cable TV/Internet – Now through August 7

The Town of Amherst invites the community to participate in a brief survey to share their experiences with cable television in Amherst. All residents are encouraged to participate even if they are not current cable subscribers. This public survey is an opportunity for residents to provide feedback about whether the current cable operator, Comcast, is in full compliance with its currently-existing cable license, and the Town’s future community cable-related needs.
