Energy and Climate Action Committee – Monday

The Energy and Climate Action Committee meets on Monday afternoon with a full agenda. Among the many topics to be discussed are climate resilient schools, a rental/building efficiency bylaw, as well as solar, transportation, and network geothermal. Monday, 3:00-5:00 pm on Zoom. MORE

Joint Meeting of Town Council and Jones Library Trustees – Monday

With the departure of Trustee Robert Pam, the Jones Library Board of Trustees will jointly with the Town Council appoint a new member to fulfill the remainder of Pamโ€™s term. The two boards meet jointly on Monday to define the process for making this appointment. Monday, 6:00-6:30 pm in Town Hall and on Zoom.  MORE

Public Forum on ARHS Track & Field Project Funding – Monday

The Town Council and the Finance Committee jointly host a public forum on Monday evening on amendments to the funding plan for the ARHS track and field project. Monday, 6:45-7:00 pm in Town Hall and on Zoom. MORE

Town Council – Monday

After the public forum, the Town Council continues its regular meeting. Among the several action items on the agenda, they will consider approving the amended funding plan for the ARHS track and field project. Theyโ€™ll also consider a motion that was postponed from their last meeting to recommend that the Town Manager not extend the contract with the architects for the Jones Library building project, essentially canceling the project. Also, they will appoint the nine members for the Charter Review Committee. Read about the charter review process and what can and cannot be revised in this post. Amherst School Committee – Tuesday

The Amherst elementary School Committee meets on Tuesday evening and will discuss plans for welcoming and onboarding the new superintendent, Dr. Xiomara Herman, who begins on July 1. Tuesday, 6:30 pm in the Library at ARHS and on Amherst Media. MORE

โ€œLove & Basketballโ€ Free Film Event – Wednesday

Amherst Cinema is hosting a free film event on Wednesday in celebration of Juneteenth featuring the film โ€œLove & Basketball.โ€ Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps star as basketball-obsessed next-door neighbors who find love over flirtatious pickup games, fall apart under the strain of high-pressure college hoops and families, and drift in and out of each otherโ€™s lives as they pursue their twin aspirations of playing professionally. Aneeka Henderson, Associate Professor of American Studies, Amherst College will introduce the film. Wednesday, 7:00 pm at Amherst Cinema. Free; tickets are available at the box office on a first-come, first-served basis, either in advance or at the door. MORE

Northampton Jazz Workshop – Wednesday

Head to the Drake for a special Juneteenth presentation of the Northampton Jazz Workshop on Wednesday evening. Guitarist Freddie Bryant will play selections from his composition project Upper West Side Love Story, and other works. Wednesday, 7:30 pm at The Drake. $ MORE

Full Moon Hike to Mount Norwuttuck – Thursday

The weather will be hot this week and itโ€™s a perfect time to experience a night hike. Join the Kestrel Land Trust and Adventure East on Thursday for a moonrise climb to the top of Mount Norwottuck on the Mount Holyoke Range in Amherst to soak in the light of the full moon. Juneโ€™s full moon is called the Strawberry Moon. Register online ahead of time. Thursday, 6:00-9:30 pm at the Kestrel Land Trust headquarters. $  MORE
