I appreciate and understand (believe me) the PTSD and the exhaustion, but the sources of the strife over symbolism are not going to go away anytime soon, and the only way to move a community dependent on self governance forward is to gird up, get back in the fray, and make sure that sanity wins. Otherwise, the strife injures more than the community’s ability to move forward and reasonably meet its needs. It injures the community’s ability to govern itself, period. Nobody said that democracy was always going to be uplifting and fun, just that it was necessary.
