Amherst Week Ahead

We’re kicking off the new year with a look at the week ahead in Amherst. From town government meetings, to art, music, or athletics, there’s plenty to do this week.

Town Council Swearing-In – Tuesday

On Tuesday, Amherst’s third Town Council will be sworn in at this special meeting at Town Hall. Nine returning councilors and four new councilors (including one who served previously on the first Town Council) will take office after being elected last November. Boundless: Exhibit of Works by Native American Artists and Writers – Tuesday through Sunday

This is the final week to view this stunning exhibit at Mead Art Museum at Amherst College. As described on its website, “Boundless takes shape like water, moving across generations and geographies, and expanding conversations about kinship, presence, resistance, and history through its flow.” Tuesday-Sunday, 9:00 am-5:00 pm. Amherst Regional High School Athletics – Wednesday through Friday

Catch Amherst Hurricanes varsity action at home this week! Boys basketball vs. Pope Francis on Wednesday, 7:00pm and vs. Longmeadow on Friday, 7:00pm, both games at ARHS. Girls basketball vs. Taconic, also at ARHS, on Thursday, 7:00pm. And, Boys ice hockey looks to improve its undefeated season to 8 wins on Thursday, 6:00pm at Amherst College’s Orr rink vs. Longmeadow. $. MORE

Cuppa’ Joe with Paul – Friday

Join Town Manager Paul Bockelman and interim leaders from CRESS at the year’s first Cuppa’ Joe event. The interim leadership team is comprised of DEI Director Pamela Young, Fire Chief Tim Nelson, Police Sergeant Janet Griffin, and CRESS Program Assistant Kat Newman.

The “Cuppa’ Joe with Paul” coffees are a monthly event and rotate around the Town. Each time, Paul is joined by a different Town department head or official. Residents and others are welcome to share their concerns, offer suggestions, or just get to know each other. Friday, 8:00-9:30am in the Bangs Community Center. Free. 

ARHS Cabaret at The Drake – Saturday

Head to The Drake on Saturday to enjoy an evening of skits and small group musical performances, featuring students from Amherst Regional High School. An annual event, the show will feature musical acts from a variety of genres and showcase the talents of students in our town. Saturday, 7:30pm. $ MORE
